Every once in a while a certain artist remains on your radar, yet you never really get into their music. For me, that artist is Ellie Goulding. Ever since her smash hit “Lights”, I’ve never really connected with her music. Her latest single, “Anything Could Happen” certainly changed all that. Ellie recently spoke to MTV News about the song, stating that she hopes “it will provoke positivity, as opposed to make people really sad”. Profound.
The mere thought of anything unpredictable happening would turn most people into a ball of anxiety. This song, despite its somewhat somber music video, evokes different feelings. It’s light and pretty, whimsical even. It makes you feel infinite, and I have to admit, that is a pretty good feeling. Well done Ellie. You’ve truly gained a new fan.
“Anything Could Happen” is out in the UK today, and the US on Tuesday. Ellie’s sophomore album, Halcyon, is out next week. I’ll be sure to grab a copy.
