Rihanna’s new single “Diamonds” has climbed straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, ending Maroon 5’s nine week reign with “One More Night”. “Diamonds” is Rihanna’s 12th US number one since “S.O.S” peaked at the top in the spring of 2006. In total, Rihanna has spent a total of forty five weeks at number one with her hits, which include the Calvin Harris produced “We Found Love”, one of her career defining hits “Umbrella” and Eminem’s “Love The Way The Lie”, which she features on. That’s almost a year of Rihanna at the top of the charts. Astounding figures.
The Def Jam hit maker has never had a number one album on the Billboard 200 album chart. That could all change next week, though. According to Complex Magazine, Rih’s new album Unapologetic could sell as much as 260 000 copies in its first week, easily besting other new releases.
It’s interesting to note that, as much criticism as Rihanna’s personal life incites, Rihanna the superstar’s career is shining bigger and brighter than it ever has (no pun intended). Have you heard Unapologetic yet? What do you think about the new album? Sound off in the comments.
